The best known sirtuin activator is resveratrol. It can be found in the skin of red grapes and thus also in red wine. The grapes form resveratrol to protect against fungal attack. Resveratrol is only produced by plants that are forced to protect themselves by external stress. That means: Plants that have been sprayed with pesticides hardly or not at all produce this secondary plant substance because they no longer have to protect themselves from fungi.
