The 7 trendy colors of 2022

Seven major paint brands announce their favorite shades and colors for the coming year

The year 2021 is about to end, and like every year, the big brands linked to the world of design are starting to unveil their proposals for the coming year.

Seven of the most important international interior decoration painting companies have already announced their proposals and, curiously, there have been coincidences. Benjamin Moore, PPG, Sherwin Williams, Glidden Paint and Behr chose green tones, while Graham and Brown and Dulux opted for blue tones. This similarity of criteria leads us to consider the possibility that these two colors could also be the highly anticipated Pantone Color of the Year, which will be announced soon.

1. October Mist

New York-based Benjamin Moore, which has been in the color business for 132 years, chose the greenish shade October Mist from the 3,550 colors currently available. This shade, described by the brand as the softly nuanced pale green stem of a flower, is effectively a soft enough green to work as a neutral color.

The company also announced that, like the rest of its products, October Mist was created using eco-friendly dyes that do not harm the environment or pollute the respiratory system of those who work with them.

2. Olive Sprig

Olive Sprig is a sleek, grounded, versatile and highly adaptable grey-green that has been chosen by the PPG brand as a trend for 2022. From its headquarters in Pittsburgh, USA, the 135-year-old company announced that it would nominate the tint as paint of the year in the 70 countries where it has a presence.

PPG offers this variant of the olive as a symbol of rebirth and as an evocation of nature’s resilience. It “emulates the sensation of soothing aloe vera or a fragrant plant that infuses any space with organic vitality,” reads its press release.

3. Evergreen Fog

Sherwin Williams has chosen Evergreen Fog for 2022. It’s a versatile and relaxing color, halfway between green and gray, with a touch of blue that brings more seriousness. It features a simple yet sophisticated style and represents a way to bring an organic touch to urban spaces.

The brand launched its first shade in 1866, when brothers Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams founded the company in Cleveland, Ohio. Since then, they have amazed the world with shades offered in 130 outlets.

4. Guacamole

“We’ve taken our affinity for green and guacamole to a whole new level,” announces Glidden Paint in its official Color of the Year announcement. Glidden is a young and bold subdivision of PPG, which also explains the freshness of the choice.

This green is more vigorous than the previous ones on this list but it refers to the idea of the organic energy of spaces and the need to reinvigorate our homes after so much confinement. As the name suggests, it is a Mexican food of pre-Hispanic origin associated with joy and good times.

5. Breezeway

This calm green, which once again refers to fresh air and soft and pleasant moments, is the bet of the American paint brand Behr, present in the United States, Canada, China, Chile and Mexico.

The Santa Ana, California-based manufacturer suggests harmonizing the Breezeway color with white, gray and natural wood tones to create relaxed atmospheres. The brand uses as references beaches with calm seas at times when the sun is pleasant and the air is mild.

6. Breathe

The English firm Graham and Brown differs from the predecessors in this list by choosing a blue tone. However, the descriptions of the products offered by this international wall decoration group that has been in the market for more than 70 years again refer to fresh air and the need for an emotional reset.

“Breathe is a calming, medium blue with calm and peaceful overtones, dark enough to add color and depth, yet light enough to stay refreshing,” says Graham and Brown. It is advisable to use this tone throughout the house, combining it with bright whites and cool grays to give a feeling of space. Deeper blues can create more intimacy.

7. Bright Skies

Until 1950, the Dulux paint company only offered its products to specialized decoration companies. It was then that she began selling directly to the public and popularizing her trends. This year, the company is proposing the light and airy blue color Bright Skies as its color of the year. Through it, she seeks to capture optimism and the desire for a new beginning.

“People want to feel revitalized and enjoy the freedoms that come back, to look outward and bring in new ideas,” Marianne Shilingford, the brand’s creative director, told decor specialist Dezeen.
