Honor MagicWatch 2 design and features
This version 2 the MagicWatch is offered in two case sizes:
- Box of 46 mm (45.9 x 45.9 x 10.7 mm) for 41 grams with screen 1.39 inch AMOLED.
- 42 mm version measures 41.8 x 41.8 x 9.3 mm for 29 grams and a 1.2 inch screen.
Like most smart health connected watches, it has a removable, easily replaceable strap. At the start, you have the choice between 3 options:
- Bracelets in fluoroelastomer black (which looks a lot like),
- the leather brown
- or the elegant Milanese mesh in rose gold.
Note that the bracelet has a rather surprising number of holes allowing the size to be adjusted perfectly. As for the body colors, the 46 mm version is available in black or light brown, and the 42 mm model in black or gold.
Overall, the Honor Magic Watch 2 is a pretty sleek device, more so than the original thanks to the fact that the watch case does not rise above the screen at all. This gives it a less “traditional”, but more refined appearance.
On the back of the watch are the charging pins and the heart rate sensor.
The smartwatch has two crowns: one evokes the characteristics of lifestyle when pressed, and the other calls up the training menu. These crowns do not protrude too much, which does not add much to the size of the device you wear on your wrist.
- Water resistance 5 ATM (with swimming pool and whitewater swimming monitoring).
- GPS / GLONASS.
- Autonomy of two weeks on a full charge (455 mAh battery on the 46 mm).
Finally, the screen offers a respectable brightness of 800 NIT ensuring correct readability in any situation.
- Resolution 454 x 454 at 326 PPI
The screen always stays on, allowing you to check the time without having to wake up the device with a flick of your wrist.

An ideal watch if you like sports
Your watch recognizes and monitors your different types of physical activity and chooses the best corresponding data. You can also develop your own personalized exercise program according to your preferences. During the process, your watch will automatically record your data in real time and can give you advice via the app.
It has several fitness modes, ranging from the expected mode, such as running, to more specialized options, such as triathlon. Some are more complex than others: some, such as running, have a wide range of functions and monitored statistics, while others, such as open water swimming, just track time, calories and heart rate.
But this smart health watch is designed to work, with many different modes to choose from. There are 13 different “running courses” which make you do specific exercises of varying intensity, guiding you in the warm-up, running and cooling times, as well as general modes of running tracking indoors and outside.
Original functions for sport at this price
These courses are accompanied by an audio companion, on the 46 mm watch (but not on the smaller model,) which guides you through the stages. Strange, if the voice (English or Mandarin only) is loud enough, it comes directly from the watch, but not certain that we can hear it in the headphones smart health connected by Bluetooth.
When you run, you can see a whole series of statistics, from basic data like the distance, the time and the cardiac frequency up to more interesting numbers like your cadence and the height traveled.
The “free race” mode even has a cadence assist function, which helps you keep to a preset pace and is really helpful in keeping yourself from running out of speed.
Another interesting function is the feedback after the race. The watch shows you how much your physical condition has improved, as well as the recovery time that you should take before your next race. This really helps you to work out your fitness program, both in terms of scheduling the exercises and understanding the efforts you can make.
The combination of these statistics and these functions is available in other exercise modes, but they are not all as complete. A real plus compared to the functions offered with Google Fit under Wear Os.
Why is the 46mm option the best choice?
Although apparently heavier, it weighs only 41 g and is very comfortable to wear on the wrist in daily use.
The 46mm model has some size advantages, including a larger screen with higher resolution, but also twice the battery life.
It connects via long-range Bluetooth to your smartphone, and a built-in speaker and microphone for calls as well as for motivating speaker training. If you plan to choose the 42mm version, be aware that these features are lacking, even if you save a little money.
In the end, the only drawback of this model is that it will not necessarily suit small wrists. Also note that the materials used are a bit surprising, because they have a slight sticky effect that retains dust on the watch.
Honor MagicWatch 2 software and connectivity
The smart health connected watch does not work under Watch OS, Wear Os or any other “standard” smartwatch operating system. Indeed, Huawei has its own software that it uses for both Huawei and Honor wearables. To work with your smartphone, you will therefore need the free application.
Huawei’s smartwatch operating system is excellent for fitness and running functions, as we mentioned, but it is not as good for lifestyle functions other than fitness. There is a limited selection of apps for daily use, and there is also no online library of any kind to expand the apps you have.
You have basic functions like alarms, the timers, the notifications and the sleep tracking. However, other operating systems offer compatibility with a wider choice of applications.
Honor announced the possibility to create your own wallpaper with your photos. But I could not Review this function via theHuawei Health app (version of January 22, 2020).
Price and availability Honor MagicWatch 2
It’s a pretty affordable rate for a smartwatch (see our comparison to convince you), given that some comparable options can cost up to twice as much among competitors.
Honor hasn’t yet set the price and release date for the 42mm model, but it will likely be a little cheaper as it has fewer features (we’ll see the differences later).
Note that the price of the two models is lower than that of the original Honor, so it seems that you get a good deal, regardless of the size you buy.
Another alternative for with the smart health connected bracelet at a very low price Honor Band 5 for less than $ 29.
