Fitbit Inspire 2 improves current smart health connected bracelets a bit

Fitbit Inspire 2 improves current smart health connected bracelets a bit

Fitbit Inspire 2  smart health connected bracelet which improves a little the previous versions, but it has a big flaw.

Fitbit has officially unveiled the Inspire 2, which follows on from the Inspire and Inspire HR fitness trackers.

The new version of the smart health connected bracelet refines its lines, improves its screen and adds new software features. A detailed review of its developments which will appeal to aficionados of the American brand, but not me and it is not because of its characteristics or its look.

Fitbit Inspire 2: design, colors and straps

The Inspire 2 adopts a look quite close to its predecessor, the Inspire HR, but slightly thinner, and above all a brighter screen which gains in readability. Its style makes it one of the most elegant smart health connected bracelets for me.

The unique dial in black and accompanied by a choice of three silicone strap colors:

  • Case only in black with lunar white, sand rose or black strap.
  • Dimensions 3.73 x 1.67 x 1.29 cm.
  • Weight of 30 grams.
  • Water resistant to 5 ATM.

But, it is also possible to personalize your Inspire 2 with many other models such as the Milanese mesh model or the Hermes-style double leather buckle.

In addition, you still have the fitbit clip, which allows it to be attached directly to your clothes.

The features of the Fitbit Inspire 2: physical activity and health tracking

A complete bracelet that watches you day and night. On the functionality side, it’s fair to say you’ve got your eyes on how it can track your movements during the day and your recovery at night.

It gives you the basic information with distance traveled, calories burned and inactivity alerts. It also allows you to constantly monitoring your heart rate.

  • Daily activity trackings, number of steps, distance traveled and calories burned.
  • Measurement of minutes in active zone, which specifically tracks time spent in fat burning areas.
  • Continuous heart rate with alert on a maximum value
  • Sleep analysis
  • Timer and stopwatch
  • monitoring menstrual cycle
  • Guided breathing.

New: Active Minute Zone

Fitbit adds support for its new function “ Active Minute Zone ”. It’s designed to hit target heart rate zones where you burn fat every week.

This feature also allows you to train with heart rate zones and check your cardio level in the Fitbit app.

Fitbit Inspire 2 health sport activity tracker

More recognized sports with 20 physical activity tracks

When it’s time to take it up a notch, there are over 20 exercise modes to keep track of your activities. As well as the software SmartTrack from Fitbit, which automatically recognizes when you play a variety of sports.

The GPS smart health connected supports your phone’s GPS signal, which requires you to have it near or on you during your outdoor exercise like the cycling, the race or the hiking.

If you love to swim, the Inspire 2 is waterproof for pool swimming and offers the same level of help in tracking the swimming than the Inspire HR.

With the Fitbit app you can record the composition of your meals. This allows you to compare the calories absorbed with those you burn in your physical activities during the day.

Still the best for sleep tracking

The Inspire 2 takes over the sleep tracking of the Inspire HR which I recently ranked among the best sleep trackers. So you can see a breakdown of the different phases of your sleep, including the important stage of REM sleep also called REM.

You can compare your results to people in a similar demographic, as well as your average sleep over the past 30 days. Plus, Fitbit sleep tracking learns your behavior over time and gives you more and more personalized feedback to improve the quality of your nights.

Specific settings for the night with the “ sleep mode ”Which turns off the display of the health home screen and notifications. So the sleep tracking sensors work without the risk of being disturbed by the Inspire 2’s lighting or vibrations.
In addition, the “ Silent alarm”You create an alarm in the Fitbit app and your band will wake you up with a vibration on your wrist without ringing.

Fitbit Inspire 2: Smartwatch functions

Although it is certainly not a Versa 3 or the last Sense , Fitbit managed to integrate a few smart health watch-like functions into the Inspire 2.

  • Notifications from your smartphone to your wrist (social networks, SMS, appointments, alarms, etc.)
  • Visualization of incoming calls with quick response

Like its predecessor, you will be able to receive phone notificationsfrom compatible Android phones and iPhones. This means that you will be able to see incoming calls, texts and appointments from your calendar.

If you have an Android phone, you can send quick replies when your phone is nearby.

But here no NFC chip so no contactless payment with Fitbit Pay (which is anyway available from few banks in France).

No access to musical controls to change tracks on the wrist.

Fitbit Inspire 2: additional functions in Fitbit Premium

Once you’ve picked up your Inspire 2, simply download the Fitbit app to your Android or iOS smartphone, pair them, and you’re good to go. For this you can use the Google Fast Pair service for Bluetooth pairing.

Fitbit offers additional features built into its Fitbit Premium platform. If you decide to pay the monthly or yearly subscription, you can expect to see more personalized information from your tracking data. The good “little” news is that you get one year of free Premium service with your purchase, after which you’ll have to pay to keep all the features.

You will also unlock the sleep scores with additional information on sleep, you will have access to guided programs on topics such as nutrition , functions of stress managementsuch as guided meditations and access to video and audio workouts. You can also access social functionsto compete against other friends and family who own a Fitbit product.

Improved autonomy of the Fitbit smart health connected bracelet

If you’re looking for the best Fitbit for battery life, this is the item of clothing you need in your life. Fitbit claims the Inspire 2 can hold up 10 days loin its charger. This will of course depend entirely on the types of functions you use regularly.

That means it promises five more days than the Inspire or Inspire HR. L

If you compare that to the competition, it’s more than the seven days promised on the Samsung Galaxy Fit, but still worse than the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 with its 2-week battery life.

Price, competition and release date

Fitbit Inspire 2 price and date

The Inspire 2 is available now for sale  at Amazon with the price of $ 99.95.

It gives access to a free one-year subscription to Fitbit Premium, which normally costs $ 79.99 annually. Personally, I cannot think of having to pay a subscription to use a watch or a smart health connected bracelet that I have purchased. Now without Premium Mode, the Inspire 2 is still usable, but with less data and analytics.

Inspire 2 competitors and best smart health connected bracelets 2020

The brand new Amazfit Band 5 at $ 49.99 , the most complete and powerful smart health connected bracelets (without subscription)

Much cheaper, the Xiaomi mi band 5 , which we find at 33 $, the best quality / price ratio in the smart health connected bracelet category.

The Redmi Band with its minimum price at 17 $ at Gearbest the specialty of Chinese import.

New Fitbit Inspire 2 which improves a little the Inspire HR in lower price to $ 78.

For smartphone owners Samsung, I recommend it Galaxy Fit at 69 $ (and no subscription required).

Perfect with a phone Huawei Band 3 Pro at 45 $.

The Honor Band 5 at 34 $ which I find the most beautiful (totally personal opinion) and especially one of the few to offer an SpO2 sensor and an NFC chip for contactless payment (but its touch screen is not the easiest to navigate).

Fitbit Insprire 2 review

I remain cautious, in reality if we take a closer look at the changes made by Fitbit on the Inspire 2 compared to the previous model, there is not much new.

From a hardware point of view, the promise of a better screen and doubled battery life are the main improvements.

On the software side, you get five additional goal-based exercise modes and the “Active Minute Zone” feature is also a feature you won’t find on the Inspire HR.

Otherwise, both trackers have the same functionality. Knowing that the Inspire HR could benefit from a software update, there is still the screen and battery life.
